We’re thrilled to share that we’ve officially expanded—our farm family just got bigger! This year, we’ve acquired a brand new piece of land, and we can’t wait to grow with it (literally). It is located at 4512 Vallejo Street in Denver.
The new farm gives us more room to plant, play, and dream big—think more veggies, more flowers, and more space to bring our community together. We’ve got some fun plans in the works and can’t wait to invite you out to see it in person soon.
Thanks for growing with us—this is just the beginning!
Look on our product/CSA page for CSA shares on Vallejo. We are still offering shares for this farm.
Native and Hügelkultur Berms
Last year we created two berms on the farm. We now have a native berm in the front of the farm which has many native plants, penstemon and blanket flowers. We have a nature hugelkultur berm on the backside of the farm. A nature berm is a raised mound of soil or other material that can be used for landscaping and to create habitat for wildlife. Our berm includes elderberry tree, choke cherries and currant bushes. These berms host beneficial fungi, bacteria, insects, worms, and microbial growth that create nutrients our plants can use. We have created an ecosystem in which the beneficial organisms will thrive.
Pollinator Berm
This year we will be creating a pollinator berm on the farm. This berm will include many native grasses, balsam root, blue flax, asters, bee plants and yarrow and a water feature.
The benefit of creating a pollinator garden isn’t just for the birds and the bees. A healthy population of pollinators like bees, butterflies, moths, birds, bats, beetles, and even ants are the backbone of all life – and our food systems. Did you know that pollinators are directly responsible for one-third of all food that humans consume, including everything from fruit and veggies to coffee and chocolate?
Pollinators are considered a keystone species group. The National Geographic Society describes a keystone species as “a plant or animal that plays a unique and crucial role in the way an ecosystem functions. Without keystone species, the ecosystem would be dramatically different or cease to exist altogether.”
Trees
We planted over 100 trees around the perimeter of the farm for a windbreak.
We donate food to the Arvada Food Bank Community Table.
The gift you give today will help us end hunger in our community and will help ensure that no plate is empty during this time of gratefulness and giving.
We also donate food to Growing Home. A Westminster-based non-profit that gives away tons of food, help families “make it to stability. ”
